Definition – Influenza is a common viral respiratory infection. It is contagious with an incubation period of 24 to 48 hours. There are three main types of influenza (A, B, C). Only type A produces widespread outbreaks. This is due to the fact that the virus has the ability to constantly change, producing new strains every few years, reducing immunity to it.
